Petronella Oortman, the wife of the wealthy, Dutch, silk merchant Johannes Brandt, found herself with the perfect means to create the most memorable cabinet house of the seventeenth century. Petronella crafted her cabinet house between 1686 until 1710.

The miniseries now on PBS is the story of a young woman named Petronella (Nella) Oortman, who is the young wife of a wealthy Dutch merchant named Johannes Brandt. Brandt gives Nella the cabinet house as a wedding gift and gives her a budget with which to decorate it to her liking.
